From 16 June 2023, armed clashes renewed between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Tawila town of Tawila locality, North Darfur. Clashes have reportedly led to a widespread displacement across several IDP camps near Tawila Town. Recent preliminary reports from the field teams indicate that the majority of IDPs residing in Argo, Rowanda, Bargu, Dabah Nayrah, and Dali (A & B) IDP camps have fled their areas in fear of fighting escalations. DTM estimate that the new displacement caseload is approximately 18,000 to 19,000 households. Reportedly, affected households are currently seeking shelters across the areas of Kadareik and Koem in Tawila locality, North Darfur; Um Hajaleej in Al Fashir locality, North Darfur; and Fanga Suk in Shamal Jebel Marrah locality, Central Darfur. The situation remains tense. The area is currently inaccessible to humanitarian actors. DTM is monitoring the situation closely and will be activating its Emergency Event Tracking (EET) tool, when possible, to track displacement and provide additional information on shelter, sex and age disaggregation, protection indicators, and urgent humanitarian needs.
Disclaimer: Due to the current circumstances, the DTM network is relying on remote interviews with key informants and further verification is not possible at this time.
